Artificial pancreas for diabetes

Friday, April 1, 2022

A revolution is taking place for victims of Type One diabetes. Nearly 900 people in the United Kingdom with Type One diabetes are being given a trial of an artificial pancreas. This works by having a sensor injected under the skin, which sends wireless messages to a pump that gives amounts of insulin according to how much the patient needs. Nearly 400, 000 people in the United Kingdom have Type One diabetes. A century after the first diabetes patient was administered insulin, more than 35 National Health Service diabetes centres in England are testing the revolutionary hybrid loop system – also known as an artificial pancreas.
